The Miracle of Personal Development by Jim Rohn

The foundation of good living, is built upon an individual’s level of personal development.  The code I live by:

One day Mr. Shoaff said, “Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.”

Since that time I’ve been working on my own personal development. And I must admit that this has been the most challenging assignment of all. This business of personal development lasts a lifetime.

You see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important question to ask on the job is not, “What am I getting?” Instead, you should ask, “What am I becoming?” Getting and becoming are like Siamese twins: What you become directly influences what you get. Think of it this way: Most of what you have today you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.

I’ve also found that income rarely exceeds personal development. Sometimes income takes a lucky jump, but unless you learn to handle the responsibilities that come with it, it will usually shrink back to the amount you can handle.

If someone hands you a million dollars, you’d better hurry up and become a millionaire. A very rich man once said, “If you took all the money in the world and divided it equally among everybody, it would soon be back in the same pockets it was before.”

It is hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development

So here’s the great axiom of life:

–To Have More Than You’ve Got, Become More Than You Are–

This is where you should focus most of your attention. Otherwise, you just might have to contend with the axiom of not changing, which is:

–Unless You Change How You Are, You’ll Always Have What You’ve Got–

Trip to San Fran, and Massive Personal Development

I split descion went down to San Fran this weekend to visit the grandparents, they are now 91 years old.  Orignally from China, and moved to america with nothing, they now financially secure, through real estate investing, lots of buildings paid off.  They are chiense, in china they built a statue of my grandmother, or we call her ‘lau lua’ for her contributions as a teacher, and a $1,000,000 donation to the school at their 100th school aniversary in china.

I can’t wait to be able to build our buisnesses, and become financially indepedent so I can see where my hertiage (chiense side) has come from.  One of the reasons is to be able to be free, and experience life.

Although it is fun to be in another city, all I really wanted to do is get back to my office and do some more work.  My buisness partners Marques and Chris are doing very well working on partnerships agreements, and getting things done.  I felt like I wasn’t contributing while I was in San Fran.  So I’am glad to be around the family, every 6 months I see my grandparents, one of the blessings in life to see the family and not have to worry.

While I was down there, I read/heard about 3-4 books.  Amazing, in 3-4 days not bad.

I read, Why We Want You To Be Rich, by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.

I read, The Weekend Millionaire Investor, by Mike Summey, and Roger Dawson.

I read, ZERO TO ONE MILLION, by Ryan M. Allis (almost done), although I’m not done with the 3rd book, I was listening to many different audio programs too so I got a ton of information.

You may consider reading more, every buisness leader reads, heres a good quote, readers are leaders.  I dare you to find one of the most successfully people who never read, who never associate who never inspire themsleves, or who don’t learn new things every day from people who are more successful than them.  Read more, I promise you, every book you read will get you faster to the things you want.  No I don’t mean the junk, I mean the good stuff.

I just purchased 2 new books: The Millionaire Real Estate Investor, and the Little Red Book of Sales.

Want to be rich? Read a book on becoming rich, its that easy.  Are you reading, if your not, your probably not acheiving the results as quick as you like if your not reading.  You may consider it, $5 book can make u millions.

The Most Rewarding Experience

I believe that the most rewarding experience in life is having your name appear in another person’s testimonial. After my mentor Mr. Sean Mikael a very successfull multi-level marketer who was my upline for several months got me started. Although I was already reading some books, he sent me some CDs that dramatically impacted my life. CDs that gave me philosophies, guidance, and wisdom about becoming more successful, in all areas of life.

MentoringI truly must say that I’am gratiful for him, and that he will almost remain a figure in my life. He got me started.

As I mentioned in another article about intelligent-self interest, sharing. I have begun the task of helping people achieve their dreams. There is a painter at our house by the name of Jason B, I have known him for several years now and only till recently I’ve had enough knowledge to positively affect other peoples lives. Awhile back ago I gave him a CD on success philosophies by Jim Rohn. He enjoyed the CD as he told me a week or so later.

After that I was excited as well, not only can the audience be transformed, but so can the speaker. So I gave him some more material to help him. Personal Development material, among them were how to become financially indepedent, and the art of exceptional living by Jim Rohn. Now, less than a week later he has begun reading books building a library. He is reading a bilbography on Hitler, and Ghandi. One to see how high you can go, and one to see how low and disiciplicible a human being can become. He has picked up some more books on programming your mind for success, one on parenting, one on philosophies and his wife has given him some CDs on becoming by Anthony Robbins.

Today, I know understand fully why I take the time to help others. Because it is the most rewarding experience in the world. Today he say, you got me started, thanks because of the CDs you have given me it is changing my life for the better, I appreciate that, thank you.

And wow, being in someone’s personal testimonial, Jim Rohn was right, that is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. He is a contractor, and there is a book by the E-Myth company about why most small contracting companies don’t worry. I have more CDs, but he has taken the step to purchase them himself, and now he has ten books and over 8 CDs for personal development. He told me, “I Started My Library.” Wow.

He started telling me all the wonderful techniques that he had learned from Tony Robbins, we had a fun time because I could whole-heartedly relate to him.  And we both seemed to talk like the speaker Jim Rohn. This has all happened in less than a couple weeks, and I believe he will continue the craft after listening to Jim Rohn.  I believe Jim Rohn, on the art of exceptional living is the foundation for all successful living in my personal opinion.

Starting a Library will change your life. I’am now learning how to mentor other people, it is something I believe I want to do, I’ve considered becoming a personal development professional like Anthony Robbins although I have not decided yet. Regardless, I would like to give him more information, but alas, to much overload is not a good thing either. So what I’m going to do, although he has already purchased books, I was going to buy him another book on the contractors, and then with a note attached, a gift, that says only open this after you have read the book, with a gift ceritifcat to a bookstore near his house to continue his craft.

I’m off to San Francisco for the weekend to visit my grandparents, who I’am so terribly gratiful for.

Maximizing Learning – Online Conference

My good friend Stephen Ramil had a good idea to maximize the learning we do from reading books. His idea was to get together and teach eachother the concepts that we learn while reading helpful books. I think it is a great idea, and we thought it would be cool to do an online conference call, with visual, and interaction with a flashtalk system. Consider it like a weekly free, session on creating wealth, or becoming more successful in any field for free via the web. A web conference where you can log on and learn, the most important part free.

Flash talk allows people on the internet to get in a conference room, see visuals with powerpoint, and direct users to websites. (where we would have an interactive learning tool, to increase learning as well).  Learn about the different levels of learning.

Whats in it for the speakers, well the speakers receive intelligent self-interest, by teaching, and sharing to others. They hear the concept 10 times, while the audience hears it once. If you teach a subject, “for the most part,” the teacher always knows it best, has studied it, and thus increasing his or her knowledge and the audience. If you are interesting in being apart of a web conference like this, please comment here.

Website Progress – Foundation

It is about 5:45AM right now, I woke up at 5:30PM today. Although there have not been to many interesting ideas to post as of today, which I can share at the moment I should add. The website has been making steady progress and several times today I saw a great need for my service which will be great.

I like what Zig Ziglar has to say about building a character foundation, he quotes some of the tallest buildings in the world, have the largest foundations in the world. The larger the foundation, the better it is, more stable, higher integrity the higher you can grow. This is applied to people in how we need to build a character foundation, so we can be able to go way way up.

For my website, it has taken sometime, but instead of doing a whack job programming it, I’ve learned the backbone of the php and mysql, but most importantly have now understood the security side to it. I’m making the site very secure, and understand it better now, and deleted all my exisiting code and just rewrote the whole thing to make it more efficient.

One things I just did was removing the variables from the URL:

  • Instead of: http://www.wesmahler.com?userid=wesleymahler
  • It turns into http://www.wesmahler.com/wesleymahler

If you are not familiar with Search Engine Optimization, the 2nd example, the after-product, is ideal for search engines to pickup the keywords in the url. I currently now have the user registration ready, editing user, and then the fun stuff beings today.

I’ve also shared some MP3s now with a fellow entrepreneur in Texas I believe, he was interested in learning stuff about creating income online. I met him through facebook, and the cds I sent to my friend in Ohio should be arriving soon. He he is getting close to finishing Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and already his mindset is set, his navigational thinking, set on building a buisness for himself. And he understands the taxes, and has said thanks to me. So I appreciate that.

And still working on the book, 1 page a day! I’m now in editing mode! I’m thinking about creating an online library like Ben Casnocha so I can see all the books I read and look at my progress. Taking a picture of my library every month.

Oh, and for some reason my RSS FEED broke, so if your using a reader it won’t update. Incredible!

Today will be incredibly… productive..

It is 6am right now, yesterday I was so tired after applying my no prcastination technique that I found myself keep doing chores throughout the day without hestitating to do them. Needless to say I was able to accomplish quite a bit of chores that I needed to do anyways. Having a Bank of America personal account, Wells Fargo buisness account, and Wells Fargo personal account does not make life easy when you want to purchase checks, sign up for overdraft, sign up for new credit cards and lines of credit for each individual account. You would think it’d just be 2 calling locations, but no, it is three because Wells Fargo personal is a different department than the buisness.

Anyways, I just do no understand why Wells Fargo has so many fees, I applied for overdraft poretction. I thought that with overdraft protection they would not charge you, at least Bank of America Doesn’t, when you overdraft your account. Although Wells Fargo decides to charge even when you have an overdraft with overdraft protection, wow. Does not sound like much of overdraft protection to me when I still get a fee for overdrafting. Anyways, I was also to get my 93 RX-7 close to being able to sell with removing, and replacing the stereo back to OEM, I’m going to be installing it today and putting my Integra back together this week. I can not wait to sell the car and get my thousands back to place it into my bank accounts and stop preventing all the Wells Fargo Fees.

Because I have several accounts with Wells Fargo, and they are not at the minimum balance to receive no fees, I have to pay $20/month because I do not have over 4.5k spread out throughout my accounts, that $20/month is $240/yr just paying away to fees.

But regardless I’m headin in a new direction, I do not have to go back to the same situtation I was before with overdrafts weekly. But today I’m excited because I’m able to work on my new web 2.0 communit all day today and believe I will get a majority of the work done today for it. The last couple of days I have been doing research on how to make the site secure, I never knew how easy it was to hack into peoples’ accounts on the internet on some of theses less secure sites. I’m also doing about an hour of personal development a day, and increased it from 30 minutes a day, as Jim Rohn says, one hour a day will help you to become rich, although 30 minutes a day, half rich isn’t bad either.

My friend in Ohio, Adriel, the high school student I’m helping out has just started reading Rich Dad Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki and to say the very least he has enjoyed the reading so far. He has read about 70 pages in 3 days, a great momentum to work on himself, I had him teach me what he learned because I know that if he teaches others, he will retain the information the best over all other methods. He also read my book, and recommended that I finish it, so I have been working daily on that, I have now sent him down several CDs of personal development to listen to. I will be so interesting to see where this friendship lands up.

It is one thing to read a book, but it is another thing to get the most out of it. This graph shows you why I don’t just congradulate him on reading the book but have him teach me the principals he has learned. So I can hear them again, and so he can too.

We Learn / Remember:

  • 10% of what we READ
  • 20% of what we HEAR
  • 30% of what we SEE
  • 70% of what we DISCUSS with others
  • 80% of what we EXPERIENCE personally
  • 90% of what we TEACH someone else

Now the above table is different on most different sources, but they all agree that we begin to retain more information when we are actively engaging ourselves. Where as reading is usually on the bottom of the list, it is not that active, while teaching is on the top. Consider why teaching is on the top? Now you know the how, but if you know why, you’ll make it better.

Two Simple Philosophies to Help Take Immediate Action

After reading several books and listening to audio CDs, not only have I learned the philosophies in the book, but I have started to apply them and they are simple ways to help take action immediately.

It is quite clear that after studying success through books, seminars, and audio CDs which talk about personal development, there are many different techniques that we are able to use in our daily lives to improve our performance. There is a significant amount of recommendations to try everyday, but with to many ideas, it can sometimes become unapplied knowledge because there are simply to many to use. However, theses two, combined together, from different sources in my opinion are a powerful, less than a 20 second method to maintain a slight edge advantage and avoid the procastination by taking action which I use every day now.

The first philosophy is from Jim Rohn’s “The Art of Exceptional Living”, to ask ourselves the following question, “Will the errors in my present judgment of philosophy, what’s that going to cost me in one year, six years. One month, six months? I’m telling you the money costs, and the health costs, and the success costs are is to gigantic if you look down the road a little ways and say, are there errors in my current judgment like an apple a day vs. a heresy bar a day.”

In short, what Jim Rohn is saying, is that you should look at your current actions, the actions you are taking everyday, and ask yourself what is that going to cost me in the future? For example, have you heard the phrase, an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Here is a good question for you, what if that is true? See some people have it all messed up; someone else says a heresy bar a day. Noooo, it is not heresy bar. So ask yourself, what is going to be the future cost of the errors in my present judgment of philosophy.

The second is from the book, “The Magic of Thinking Big,” which is a must read for anyone who wants success. In this book there is a suggestion that simply talks about the following. Every day there are chores, and tasks that we must do in order to be productive. Whenever you get the urge to put something off, to procrastinate, to think about not doing it, do it, right then and there. So when you even start to procrastinate, just do it at that moment, right at the moment.

Combine the two together you have an awesome tool to use to your advantage, asking yourself what your errors in your judgment are, and if you seem to procrastinate on doing the task, just do it immediately without thinking any more about doing it. So for example before I wrote this blog, it is almost midnight I’m very tired and about to goto bed.  I sit on my bed for a second and lay down, and think to myself oh, I haven’t written my page today and brushed my teeth.  Like everyone does for the most part, laying there comfortably, ah, what a pain to do those chores.  But then I remember, and use the knowledge I had.  Procastinating on those two is a current error in my judgement which would affect me later on, the habit, and then right then and there, without thinking any more I uncomfortbly got up wrote my page, and did my brushing up before bed.  After that, I felt good, and that is called “personal power,” the ability to take action.

t is late at night and I started to decide if I should write my one page today, or go to bed. I also needed to brush my teeth, as I sat there and started thinking about it, I just went ahead and immediately wrote my page, went to brush my teeth. And ladies and gentlemen, that is called “personal power,” taking action.

Although I still struggle with this sometimes I constantly try to immediately take action and think about future results.  It is so exciting and you do it more and more often, it becomes more natural and you start to gain control.  It is so incredible when you know that you are doing the right activity, applying knowledge, and being productive, it is an incredible feeling.  So here it is one more time, and think about applying it in your life.

  • Asking yourself, “What will the errors in my current judgment cost me in the future?”
  • And, whenever I start to even think about procastinating anything, immediately take action, do whatever it is you are procastinating about without thinking twice about it.

You can apply it to all areas in your life. Incredible.

The Best Investment Possible, Is Investing In Yourself

As I was programming my website today I came across a ton of information about making my site secure. Unfortunately, I did not know how easy it was for people to hack into sites. After reading an article by a security guru, I decided to book and found my self going on a shopping spree. But what would Wes buy, I’ll show you.

The best investment you can make is investing in yourself, becoming a better person. I’m going to have the privilege to be a public speaker at our upcoming events, I’m going to start this web 2.0 community for a sellout, and learn how to program. What better way than to learn from the experts themselves. I went ahead a purchased a bunch more books for my library. In life, they put the valuable things on the top shelf, in order to reach them we have to stand on the books we read. Take a look at this post for a perfect example of an 18 yr old, who has a multimillion dollar company because he has become a multimillion dollar person by developing himself.

In other words, as Jim Rohn says, “Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job, if you work hard at your job you’ll make a living, if you work hard on yourself you’ll make a fortune.

Investment in Books: $ 150

I’m sure you will agree with me, that I will go a lot more value than $150 out of theses books. What are you reading? “The person who can read and doesn’t, is the same as someone who can not read at all.” In other words, if you can study success in whatever field you want to pursue, and don’t read books that teach you how to have success in certain fields, than you are the same as an individual who can not read books.  Take a look at the books I just purchased for myself, wouldn’t you agree that they will help me.  Wouldn’t you also agree that they would probably help other people if they read it.  The challenge is, that most people simply do not read life changing information.

Here the books are that I just purchased, I’ll take a picture of my library in progress. All houses over $200,000 have a library in them.  Why is that?  It’s a clue, start a library it’ll change your life.

A Semi-Typical Day In My World

Well I’m finishing this blog at about 6am, it is not uncommon for me to go to bed very late because I’m normally up working on my laptop. With the 24/7 activity on the world wide web, it really doesn’t matter whether or not I’m working at 9-5pm, so as an entrepreneur, we are able to set out own hours and work whenever we want. It is a great experience.

Today, my friend Charmon helped me study for a Sociology Test, which I took today. I m unsure what grade I’ll get in the class, and then I studied for my math final on Wednesday. After that it was about 9pm, however, it was the start of my business productive day. After getting home I talked with Marc Rogers, an individual in Portland, OR who is helping me find an investment property to purchase in North Portland. Then, I went ahead and talked to the mortgage broker to give me some more good faith estimates to see compare the numbers on different loans. My real estate transaction is going along well. I saw several multi family units in N Portland, however nothing to exciting. They all bring around 22-25k gross per year, they are all around 300k for a three units. The pictures were some of the properties that I have been looking at as possible investments. And for those people who don’t understand leverage, no, I do not have 300k liquid cash sitting in my bank account. Not yet anyways, but no, I’m borrowing the money from the bank. To many people say I do not have money, if I did I would invest. Well don’t kill yourself mentally, OPM, other people’s money, use the bank’s money not your own.

Then I logged into Facebook, and there were several messages from other entrepreneurs who I have began to network with. One individual is starting a next work marketing company selling personal defense weapons, and devices; although I respectfully declined it was quite interesting to see what he was doing. Another individual was creating an online community for aspiring entrepreneurs; his site blulite thought was very hard to navigate. Another guy Adrian is a ETF trader and creating a good sum of cash working part time, but producing full time income.

I also got in contact with Ben Casnocha, as listed below, I emailed him and he replied back giving thanks. I’ve just been recently at aw on the great people I’m able to talk to. With almost everyone I know going places, I’m going with them, and my other friend Chris, had his lyrics featured in Source magazine. That is incredible, working with Snoop Dogg, and he has Nas who is interested in his beats. Wow, everyone is doing great, and I’m just living it with them. Anyways, afterwards I had fun working on writing my book on the law of association for about an hour and a half. Read some other entrepreneur blogs, some interesting news on Donald Trump, and then started to work on programming my new web 2.0 community which is starting to look good. I also made an offer on a domain name I’m interested in purchasing, however I still can’t tell everyone what the web 2.0 community I’m creating untill it is already launched.

So this is a random rant on what s go on in my world, and a pretty typical day of networking, and working on sites. I’ll finish it off by reading 10 pages of a good book, Six Great Ideas, by J. Mortimer Adler.

The Journey of 1 Page A Day, Begins Again, For Good

Several months ago I decided to write a book on the law of association, “How you become the combined average of the five people you associate the most with.” For several months my books was moving steadily along, it had accumlated over 50 pages of brain storming material, a table of contents, layout, outline, and was getting closer to being ready. Then for some reason my negative thoughts were clouding my mind and I lost interest in writing the book. So for about the last two months I have stopped writing my book, and it has been sitting as a useful resource loaded with typos that I ended up letting my friend up in Ohio read.

As I mentioned in my previous blog I’m helping out a fellow aspiring entrepreneur start his first internet venture, we are talking online and I hope to help him achieve his future goals. We talk alot about buisness, reading books, and general fun stuff, its great to know that he relates so well to me. I’m encourgaging him to work on himself, so I’m sending him some CDs in the mail tommorow and went ahead and sent him my unfinished book. Why Not?

Well after he read the book he mentioned he enjoyed reading it, thought it was good and suggested I complete the book. I agreed with him and want to finish the book, and after studying how the mind works I’m able to write the book with more enthusasim. See what was happening is my daily page a day started to get on my nerves, I’d wait till way late at night to do it, and hammer out one page a day.

With one page a day, after a year that is 365 pages of a good book written. That was my goal, but I was loosing my daily discipline. So after learning the Silivia Mind Control method, it mentioned the following. “If you want to regain enthusiam about something you are doing, review the benefits.” Know why you are doing it. We do not wash our dishes, to wash our dishes, we wash our dishes so we have a clean kitchen with dishes ready to be used. I was looking at the negative aspect of writing everyday, while instead, I should have, and now I do, look at the positive side, the end result of being able to write a book.

Book WritingSo heres my why, the why makes it all worthwhile. I’am writing a book so I can give back to the community which has helped me out throughout my life. It is a chance for me to share some quality information that has positively affected me, and I’m able to share it with others. It gives me a credible source to referr to when selling myself when people want to invest in me and my buisnesses. Although I do not necessarily like titles, it would be nice to know that at age 19 I have successfully writen a book and call myself an author. I’m able to inspire, instruct, and help others succeed with the knowledge in the book. And maybe, it will provide me with some residuals from the book selling (even though I might just make it for free), and bring more attention to my works.

See how much more compelling the why is, other than, I want to just write a book. This is why, I’ve regained focus and will continue to publish the book and will probably just place it on my site for free so someone can read it. Then possibly make the next book a best seller, maybe, if I really want it.

What is so funny about the whole situtation is my writing is very basic, in high school I read about 2-3 books, and did not enjoy writing. Now all of the sudden I’m writing a book and barely pass my writing classes, but the grades won’t stop me, its just ironic. I would have never thought I’d do this. You will be reading it if you stay in touch with me.
